Outdoor Audio Systems

Installing an outdoor sound system will bring your outdoor living space closer to resort style living. These outdoor audio systems, often referred to a landscape audio systems, include weatherproof outdoor speakers and subwoofers, as well as remotely placed audio sources such as an audio amplifier or Sonos Wireless Music distribution players. The most common places you will find an outdoor audio system is nearby a swimming pool, outdoor patio/lounge area or, in the case of the project we are about to share with you, a Bocce Ball court.

This sequence of photos shows the installation of Sonance landscape speakers next to a Bocce Ball court.

In these pictures, you can see the subterranean subwoofer and speakers in the tanbark. The subwoofer looks like a mushroom.

Another outdoor area the client was looking to have music playing was the upper patio lounge. This space consists of an outdoor fireplace, sitting area and grass where the kids can play. Music is a must-have for an area like this.

This photo shows an overview of the area. Speakers are invisible this far away.

As we get closer to the hill, we can see the landscape speakers peeking out from the foliage. Visible, yet still blending in with the overall landscaping.

All of these areas have their own dedicated Sonos Zone Player, which is remotely located in the media rack. Music selection is intuitive via the iPad, Android or iPhone app. What this means is that someone playing Bocce Ball can listen to different music than someone enjoying the fireplace/lounge area.

By spreading these small speakers around the desired listening areas, we are able to achieve great sound without any big ugly visible speakers. All you notice is even, consistent volume. And with buried subwoofers, the result is a rich sound experience, with no dead areas.

But wait, there’s more!

Another area of this compound where an audio system was installed was the pool area including a small sitting area between the pool house and guest bedroom. As you can see, the speakers are mounted above the light just under the roof overhang.
