I was reading one of Honeywell’s blog articles and it hit on exactly what we are doing to differentiate ourselves from our competition in the security market.
“…today you cannot just sign [the contract] and drive. Today you have to know your customer, service your customer and add value.
Take a look at all those accounts that have been sitting for years and ask yourself if you are doing enough to educate, inform and add value for those customers. Do they have modern keypads or the latest communications technology that allows you to add remote services that can save energy, control lighting, locks and other devices in the home or business? Do they need video surveillance, outdoor sensors or notification services to keep them aware of what’s going on in and around their homes and businesses? You won’t know if you don’t ask. More importantly, your new competitors are asking these questions on every sales call and showcasing the latest cool technology that today’s consumers want.”
When we got into the alarm industry, we were shock by how archaic the systems were. We looked at what most alarm companies were doing and thought, WOW, there is a lot of opportunity here, because most companies are doing things the same way they did in the ’90s.
We decided to take a different approach. We went to conferences and got trained on the various systems. Took seminars on system design and risk prevention, and then we standardized on what our offerings would be and what made them better than what was available on the market.
That was about the time Comcast entered the alarm market. We were initially concerned, as they were able to offer a lot of the same features for an incredibly low price. However, what we found was that they were developing a reputation of overpromising and under-delivering. We should not have been surprised, we knew that designing and implementing systems in high-end homes was not a strong suit of companies like Comcast.
For the last few years we have been installing alarm systems with:
Remote monitoring and control via tablets and smartphones
Email and text notifications
Cameras with recording and remote access
Integration with lighting, heating/cooling, door locks and more.
