Self Healing Networks

Most modern A/V and home automation systems are on the home network. This gives the system access to online content, and it give the users the ability to control the systems with smartphones, tablets and other online devices. The downside to these systems is that when the network goes down, the systems go down as well.

At SoundVision we have tested and have begun deploying products that periodically verify all network devices to make sure they are online and functioning properly.  We have found Panamax “Blue-Bolt” and Pakedge “Bakpak” are both great products for this application.

These products both have a processor that lives on the network and can control surge protectors with addressable outlets. This lets the processor control the power outlet that each network device is plugged into.

The processor “pings” each networked device periodically. We can setup the system so that if a device does not respond, that device will automatically get a “power cycle” (power is disconnected for 20 seconds) to reboot it. Normally a reboot will fix most network issues, if the device does not respond after the reboot, it will email us, alerting us to the problem so we can respond ASAP and minimize downtime.

But wait, there’s more… What happens if the router or modem fails? The control system reports in to our server periodically, so if we do not hear from your system, we are able to initiate a service call, often before you even know you have a problem.

Needless to say, our goal is to be the most proactive company in the industry, and we love these new systems because they let us know if there is a problem before our customers even realize there is an issue.

Let us know if you are interested in a more robust and reliable network, we would love to help!
