Sonos has come out with a short list of older products that will no longer receive feature updates. As technology advances from year to year, there will be new software features that old hardware will simply not be able to use. This also means that if a Sonos systems contains any of the obsolete Sonos components, the entire system may no longer receive software updates.
Will my Sonos equipment stop working in May 2020?
No. Your Sonos equipment will continue to work after May 2020 as it has been working. The only change will be that the equipment on the list will no longer receive feature updates. They will continue to receive bug updates and fixes. (Sonos has updated their statement to say that they will attempt to keep old hardware functioning as long as possible, even when mixed with newer components.)
You may notice problems in the future when Sonos releases new features or services that the older hardware simply cannot support. This could be anywhere from several months to a few years.

Sonos has stated that they intend for their current and future products to be fully functional and receive software updates for a minimum of 5 years. They are still a fantastic product for distributing audio throughout your home.
What should I do?
We have until May 2020 to plan upgrades so that we can bring your system up to date before they risk losing functionality, though any affected products will continue to function for quite some time. SoundVision will be honoring the 30% “Trade Up” discount for each device that is replaced.
If you have Sonos equipment that SoundVision installed before 2015, please contact us to discuss how you would like to move forward to ensure that your audio systems continue to work into the future.
