A Stylish Way To Control Shades
As the name suggests, bottom-up shades allow the shades to rise from the bottom. This offers a unique aesthetic otherwise not possible with traditional motorized shades. Bottom-up shades still offer vast customizability, ensuring they beautifully tie in with your existing decor.
Solutions From Lutron, Hunter Douglas and Somfy
Hunter Douglas has traditionally been the leader in bottom-up shades, but now we can offer them with Lutron and Somfy motors to match the aesthetic of the rest of your home with the convenience of motorization. You can pick from any brand you'd like. However, we prefer Lutron for their consistent reliability and broad customizability.
What Are Bottom-Up Shades, and When Would You Use Them?
Unlike traditional shades that roll down from the top of the window, bottom-up shades lift up from the window sill to the top of your window. Bottom-up shades have some unique use cases that make them a great choice over more traditional shade options.
Hiding the Shade Mechanism on Higher Windows
When a window sits above eye level, like in rooms with tall ceilings, you often see the top of the window before anything else. With a traditional shade, that means the roller and all the hardware is always in view. Meanwhile, Bottom-up shades move the roller to the bottom sill, keeping it out of sight and maintaining a cleaner look on higher-up windows.
Unobstructed View With Privacy
Sometimes we want to enjoy our view but need additional privacy. While a traditional shade can only offer one or the other depending on the shade position, a bottom-up shade can give you both simultaneously. With bottom-up shades, you can cover the lower portion of your windows for privacy while still allowing you to look out at your view from above.
Customizable to Any Space
Like all our motorized shade offerings, bottom-up shades can be customized to nearly any size, fabric and color. Our privacy shades are the perfect complement for bottom-up shades. They cut down the harshness and intensity of light coming through. Our sheer fabric also cuts down light, allowing you to look through it. Thankfully, you can spec our sheer shades to only be see-through in one direction, still giving you top-tier privacy.
Cover Non-Square Windows
Not all windows are square. Some follow the curve of an arched ceiling, which can make mounting a traditional roller difficult. When the sill is flat but the top of the window is uniquely shaped, bottom-up shades still provide full shade coverage without compromising the design.
Bottom-Up Shades: Customizable To Nearly Any Fabric
One of the best things about Lutron’s bottom-up shades is how they allow your shades to integrate into your home’s overall design. Just like our other shade options, you choose from a variety of fabrics that best fit your home. You can control them with the same app as the rest of your motorized shades as well.
