Samsung Frame TV Pro: Hesitantly Excited

At CES, big names such as LG and Samsung have showcased the new TV lines they expect to have in 2025. Among the many incremental TV updates at CES, the Samsung Frame TV Pro stands out as a model worth noting.

Where the Standard Frame TV Falls Short

Last year, the standard Frame TV impressed us with its matte screen, which helped solidify the illusion of the TV as artwork. While we love the Frame TV, we primarily see it as a great way to add TVs in spaces where the design doesn’t welcome a giant black rectangle on the wall. While great for casual viewing, its picture quality has never been a standout feature.

Frame TV Pro: Promising Improved Picture Quality

The Frame TV Pro hopes to bridge this gap between quality and aesthetics by offering the design benefits of the standard Frame TV with enhanced picture quality borrowed from Samsung’s higher-end TVs. The Frame TV Pro uses Samsung’s Neo QLED panels. This should offer deeper blacks and more vivid colors, but we’ll hold our opinions until we see it in person.

The Good with the Bad: New Wireless One Connect

While we welcome better picture quality, we do have concerns about the wireless One Connect box. For those unfamiliar, the Frame TV uses an external box that, traditionally, was where you connected all your TV inputs/sources and the power cable. Then, that box would connect to the Frame TV with a single, thin cable. This keeps the Frame TV thin and minimizes the number of wires you have to run.

The Frame TV Pro adopts a wireless One Connect box. However, the Frame TV Pro now requires its own power cable in conjunction with the power cable for the One Connect box. From a setup perspective, this change doesn’t feel like an improvement. You have the same amount of devices and the same number of wires that need to be run. Instead of a wire from the Frame TV to the One Connect box, it now goes into a power outlet.

Change for the Sake of Change

Since the TV still requires a single power cable, the challenge of hiding wires remains the same as with a wired Connect Box. Additionally, proprietary wireless communication between the TV and One Connect adds two new failure points. We’re hoping there will be a wired option to create a dependable connection between the TV and One Connect box. Even with a wired connection, we don’t have issues with making the Frame TV look like artwork.

Our Verdict on the Frame TV Pro: We’ll See

We are excited to see Samsung give the Frame TV an upgrade worthy of its popularity. However, we remain skeptical about the long-term viability of a wireless One Connect box. We will test it in-house to see if it’s a product our customers will love.

We remain particularly concerned about a wireless One Connect box. We’d hate to install one in a customer’s home only for the box and TV to lose communication or struggle to maintain a connection over time. However, we’ll patiently wait for more details to see if this Pro model supports a wired connection to the One Connect box.
